REQUESTS FOR QUALIFICATIONS
DESCRIPTION: Downtown OKC Initiatives and Veolia announce call for professional artists to submit their qualifications to be considered for a mural on the south-facing wall of Veolia’s building at 1 N E. K. Gaylord, 73102. The art will be:
– Site specific
– Culturally appropriate
– Able to incorporate elements of environmental sustainability
– Able to last 20 years
BACKGROUND: Downtown OKC Initiatives is partnering with Veolia to beautify the corner of Sheridan Avenue and E. K. Gaylord Blvd. The walls of Veolia’s south building are made of louvers, unique architectural panels that allows air to flow to the physical plant behind the walls. Louvers pose a unique mural challenge as a solid surface is not constant. Veolia and DOKC are looking for a creative solution to beautify the south-facing wall with art that aligns with Veolia’s goals of pursuing environmental responsibility.
SIZE: 76’ 4” wide x 58’ 8” tall = 4,478 sq/ft
RFQ DEADLINE: Friday, July 12th
ELIGIBILITY: The opportunity is open to all professional artists. Artists may apply and be considered independently, as part of a team, or both.
- Artist Statement – An artist statement will be required by the artist who will be the principal contact and project manager. The statement should be a brief letter explaining why you want to be a part of this project and what you can contribute to Veolia’s and Downtown OKC’s culture. If a team is applying, explain the team member’s roles and why your team’s experience makes you the best candidates for this project.
- Resume – Include a professional resume for yourself and each team member, if applicable.
- Supporting Works – Include at least eight digital images of completed works with an image identification sheet to describe each work. You may also submit renderings and proposals that are pertinent. Artists with lenticular art experience are strongly encouraged to include examples of work.
SELECTION: A selection committee will select three to five artists to create site specific proposal(s). A site tour is mandatory for all selected artists. Selected artists will receive an artist fee of $1,000 for renderings/proposal.
Selected artist(s) will work with a curator/project manager to complete the mural.
