Space For Us: Star Party

July 20 | 8-10 p.m. | North Lawn

Oklahoma Contemporary and Space For Us founder Cheyenne Smith present Space For Us: Star Party, a night of stargazing and art.

Join us on the North Lawn to connect with the cosmos and learn about the fascinating universe we live in! You’ll have a chance to explore the stars with experienced astronomers and take part in a sky scavenger hunt, searching for and identifying specific celestial objects and constellations. Enjoy refreshments and music, and engage in meaningful conversations about the cross-sections of space and art.

New to stargazing? You can learn the basics of how to use a telescope and binoculars to investigate the night sky, guided by knowledgeable volunteers and instructors. Amateur astronomer? Enhance the experience by bringing your own telescopes, binoculars, preferred star maps and a red flashlight. We’ll also have telescopes available for use and volunteers on hand to assist.

The evening will include space sonification excerpted from When the Stars Came Down to Earth, a video by Crystal Z Campbell and Nathan Young.

Space For Us: Star Party is a program in response to ArtNow: The Soul Is a Wanderer, on view in the Eleanor Kirkpatrick Main Gallery starting June 22.
