The Downtown OKC Library will showcase an exhibit of original art by Caldecott winners and honorees and original editions of these books from the 1920s-2010s. The exhibit, provided by Exhibits USA, will run from December 18 to January 17 in the Downtown Atrium. The Young at Art exhibit offers a story walk and a chapbook with prompts and information on the Caldecott artists featured.
Downtown Children’s Programmers will host Young-at-Art-related programming every Tuesday through Saturday during the exhibition. A Caldecott storytime will start at 2:00 PM each day, followed by “the Inspiration Lab” from 2:30-3:30 PM in the Downtown Castle Room. Here, children can explore passive programming that draws from and expands on themes, characters, or elements from the art featured.
Even though it centers around children’s books, the Young at Art exhibit is for people of all ages. While some young children may experience “Young at Art” as an entry into art appreciation and art literacy, some adults may find that it can be just as engaging.
The Young at Art exhibition is an ideal opportunity for people of all ages to pause from the holiday rush, admire timeless illustrations, and reminisce about the enchantment of children’s literature. For more information, visit metrolibrary.org/youngatart.
