WHAT WE WEAR: Indigenous Group Art Show

June 24, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

The Red Earth Art Center features regularly scheduled exhibits and promotes the art and culture of Indigenous artists.
“What We Wear” exemplifies modern Indigenous design of clothing and adornment worn by our tribal citizens. Traditional and contemporary clothing or regalia are as diverse as the tribes they represent–from ribbon work of the plains Osage tribe to the beaded Choctaw collar necklace or an exquisite Chickasaw finger-woven belt; they are all very unique with special meaning or purpose.

The work the twelve Indigenous artists present to us here is a powerful mode of self-expression that also carries with it their family heritage. There are cultural details represented in a contemporary manner, like the stripes of a ribbon skirt found in a painting or a spiral or flower in a beadwork design.
Look at the traditional aspect of the work shared and learn about the significance the clothing, jewelry, purses, hats and moccasins carry with it in “What We Wear” in our daily lives.
