SUMMARY:EXQUISITE CORPSE EXHIBITION
DESCRIPTION:THE EXQUISITE CORPSE EXHIBITION FOLLOWS THE SPIRIT OF COLLABORATION AND INVENTIVENESS OF THE SURREALIST MOVEMENT BY BRINGING TOGETHER OKLAHOMA’S ART COMMUNITY FOR AN ASSEMBLED-ART EXPERIENCE.\nOriginally invented by surrealists in the early 1900s\, the exquisite corpse is a game in which players write on a sheet of paper\, fold it to conceal part of the drawing\, and then pass it to the next player for further contribution. Throughout the decades\, the game has evolved into many meanings and themes\, and here at ARTSPACE\, our exquisite corpse resides as a collaborative exhibition and fundraiser. \nFor this exhibition\, 12 individual artists have been asked to carve three pieces of the linoleum to create a corpse. The three body pieces will be interchanged with each other to create the Exquisite Corpse (you can see just one example of this to the right). This exhibition will be on view from October 29th to December 31st.  \nThe Exquisite Corpse Exhibition is free to the public. DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: January 5th from 5 to 7 pm \nIs a collection a portrait of its owner? \nEkpe Udoh\, a Nigerian-American basketball player who grew up in Edmond\, Oklahoma\, believes so. If all works in a collection have been curated by a single person\, they are a reflection of this person’s taste\, personality\, desires\, fears\, and loves. As a young athlete\, Udoh’s passion for art grew and developed alongside his world travels. \nIt began when Udoh visited an art gallery in Atlanta\, Georgia. A painting by Kevin Williams stopped him in his tracks. From there\, he went on to visit the artist’s studio and purchased his first “serious” painting. “That’s how I became a collector.” mused Udoh. “For sure\, I have always enjoyed going to museums and galleries\, especially when I was playing for the Los Angeles Clippers in Los Angeles in 2014-2015. I was also encouraged to pursue my interest by one of my friends’ and his sister who ran a gallery in San Francisco\, but Kevin Williams opened a new world for me and in doing so\, opened my eyes”.
