SUMMARY:Making Your Own Fringe Theatre: A Free Art & Victory Panel Discussion with Theatre Crude
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an illuminating evening of insight and inspiration as Art & Victory proudly presents a panel discussion on the art of creating fringe theatre productions. Whether you’re an aspiring playwright\, director\, actor\, or simply intrigued by the magic of theatre-making\, this event is tailored just for you! \nDate: Thursday\, May 2\, 2024\nTime: 7:00 PM\nLocation: Sailor & the Dock\n617 W Sheridan Ave\, Oklahoma City \nOur esteemed panelists\, seasoned veterans of the fringe theatre scene\, will share their invaluable experiences\, tips\, and tricks for navigating the exhilarating world of independent theatre. From conception to execution\, they’ll delve into the intricacies of scriptwriting\, directing\, casting\, production design\, marketing\, and everything in between.\nThis is an exceptional opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge from industry experts and fellow creatives. Whether you’re curious about the creative process or eager to embark on your own theatrical journey\, this event promises to ignite your passion and fuel your ambition. \nTHE PANELISTS:\nJenny Brand (she/her) has been organizing theater since the age of 16 when she lived in the Netherlands. Since graduating from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London\, Jenny has worked extensively in both the UK and US\, including the National Youth Music Theatre (UK)\, European Union Youth Orchestra (UK)\, Children’s Theatre Company (MN)\, Twin Cities Horror Festival (MN)\, Revolutions International Theatre Festival (NM)\, and the California International Theatre Festival as their executive producer. She successfully produced a multi-state tour of French theater company Cie Macadâmes to rave reviews and sold-out audiences. Locally\, she works with OKC Rep as their Associate Producer\, and is the Executive Director of Theatre Crude\, Oklahoma’s own fringe festival\nAshley J. Mandanas is an Oklahoman\, non-binary\, consent-forward performer. They’ve acted/sung/danced professionally on stage and screen for over two decades. Theatre Crude has remained a creative home for them since its inaugural year\, 2019\, and they are endlessly grateful to Jenny and Adam for fostering an environment of love\, growth\, and creation. Ashley is set alight by new works and devising processes\, and has collaboratively devised specifically for Theatre Crude in the past and in the present. A graduate of OU (with a BFA in Musical Theatre)\, Ashley is a proud fixture of the Oklahoma theatre community\, and is not going anywhere else any time soon. \nWHAT IS FRINGE?\nFringe is a national and international phenomenon\, with festivals happening in every major city across the globe. Fringe performances are one hour or less\, low-tech\, and high on ingenuity. No restrictions are made as to the nature\, style\, theme\, or content. All performers are welcome\, regardless of professional or amateur status. The result is a festival full of the unexpected. \nFREE ADMISSION:\nThanks to Sailor and the Dock and Theatre Crude\, admission is free. We hope this panel discussion inspires you to create your own production to submit to the Theatre Crude Fringe Festival.

SUMMARY:RED
DESCRIPTION:This evening-length work walks the fuzzy\, shag-carpet line between dance performance and narrative play\, leaning into both text and movement to tell an abstracted version of a well-known fictional story of survival: Little Red Riding Hood. RED\, from 2nd Best Dance Company\, written\, choreographed and directed by Hannah Garner\, explores how we confront the many-faced “big bads” that lurk on our personal wooded paths by cycling through distinct characters\, either true to the original story or entirely new. Four performers brave the unknown by way of spectacle\, sentimentality\, glamour\, mortality and answering the phone. \n\nContemporary Technique Workshop with 2nd Best Dance Company \nTake a free contemporary dance workshop with NYC-Based 2nd Best Dance Company. This class will cycle through a grounded warm-up intended to organize the body\, conditioning to further investigate use of tone and economical energy\, sequential and momentum-based traveling material and will culminate in a final phrase designed to continue your physical research of that day. This 90-minute shared practice is open to all levels. Modifications are always welcome. \nWhat is contemporary dance? \nContemporary dance stands out for its emphasis on individual expression\, versatility\, and the incorporation of diverse movement vocabularies. It is a dance style of expressive dance that has been able to combine features of several genres such as modern\, hip-hop\, jazz\, lyrical and classic ballet and more. Contemporary dance is continuously evolving. \n\nFor box office support\, email boxoffice@okcontemp.org or call 405 951 0000 during business hours. \n\nAbout the Creator \n\nHannah Garner is a director\, choreographer\, dancer and co-founder of 2nd Best Dance Company. She has worked with artists like Doug Varone\, Raja Feather Kelly\, Sue Bernhard Danceworks and Megan Williams Dance in venues such as The Joyce Theater\, New York City Center\, the Park Avenue Armory and New York Live Arts. Garner’s work at 2nd Best Dance Company has been commissioned by Gibney Dance Inc\, GroundWorks DanceTheater and Kizuna Dance\, among others. In 2020\, she was named one of the “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine.

SUMMARY:Steamroller Print Festival
DESCRIPTION:Free and open to the public\, the Steamroller Print Festival is Oklahoma’s largest annual printmaking festival. This celebration of local artists unites communities across the state with festivities\, live printing\, local vendors\, food & beer trucks\, and more! Featuring 200 artists and OKCPS students yearly\, witness relief prints created by a 5-ton steamroller and enjoy hands-on activities for all! \nFree printmaking demos inside and outside the space will run throughout the day\, offering multiple opportunities to walk away with free artwork from local artists. With activities for all ages\, this festival promises a memorable experience. \nThe annual Steamroller Print Festival is the largest fundraising event for ARTSPACE at Untitled\, supporting our arts education nonprofit. In 2024\, we aim to raise $75K to benefit our Mentorship Program\, which serves over 150 Oklahoma County children\, teens\, and young adults. We collaborate with other nonprofits weekly\, providing quality arts programming to the community. Our program focuses on Title 1 schools and welcomes at-risk students with any level of art knowledge. It’s always free\, with food provided. \nStudents spend an entire class day each month in our studio and are encouraged to use the studio outside of class. We also offer after-school and summer programs as well! Your involvement in the Steamroller Print Fest helps us maintain this fantastic resource and continue providing support to our community.
