SUMMARY:Joy Richardson Exhibition at BancFirst Tower Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Available to view M-F\, 7 AM – 7 PM\, through October 30\, 2026 \nRichardson is a self-described “colorist” whose paintings are built entirely from color and balance rather than recognizable subjects. She works in acrylic for its blending properties\, finessing subtle transitions from one hue to the next with everything from the smallest brushes to wide bristles and palette knives\, layering tones until each canvas hums. “I’m absolutely passionate about color\,” Richardson says. “Dreams in vivid tones saturate my mind.” \nCentral to every composition is a sense of balance — symmetrical or asymmetrical — that she follows by instinct rather than rule\, turning a canvas in all directions until its “color-weight-interest” reaches parity. She even signs her work up the right side as part of that equilibrium. Because no single object anchors the image\, the paintings carry a timeless appeal\, and viewers tend to describe them with mood adjectives: festive\, mellow\, energized\, peaceful\, jubilant\, spiritual\, or pensive. \nAn artist with deep Oklahoma City roots\, Richardson grew up in the city and earned a BS in Fashion with a minor in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma. Her work continues to evolve through new textures\, colors\, and uses of space. “You’ll see energetic tones and texture intertwine against a serene backdrop\,” she says\, “often with a saucy jolt that leaves the viewer uplifted.” \nThe exhibition opens with an artist reception on Tuesday August 4th\, from 5 – 7 pm\, and remains on view through October 30\, 2026.

SUMMARY:Unit 24
DESCRIPTION:Today’s the day! Anna has finally decided to clear out the storage unit she dumped her life into ten years ago. It’s hard to let go when each object is tied to a person\, like her former roommate or the camp counselor who encouraged her writing. The unit is alive with memories. Anna falls down the rabbit hole and must embark on a quest through her stuff to get home. Full of humor and heart\, it’s kind of like if Alice in Wonderland had an episode of Hoarders. Presented as part of the Theatre Crude Fringe Festival\, Unit 24 is written by local playwright/performer Alix Golden and directed by Scarlett Patiño. There is some strong language and discussion of grief.

SUMMARY:One Work\, Many Voices: "I Refuse to be Invisible"
DESCRIPTION:Join the Oklahoma City Museum of Art for the revival of our signature conversation-based gallery program\, where a single work of art becomes the focal point for thoughtful dialogue\, unexpected perspectives\, and shared discovery. \n$5 Members | $20 Non-Members\nNot a member? Join today at okcmoa.com/membership. \nReturning to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art\, One Work\, Many Voices invites visitors to experience a single work of art through the perspectives of guest speakers from our community. Rather than a traditional lecture\, this conversation-based gallery program encourages curiosity\, thoughtful discussion\, and audience participation\, reminding us that every viewer brings something meaningful to the experience. \nThis session explores “I Refuse to be Invisible” by Njideka Akunyili Crosby\, on loan from Art Bridges. Joining the discussion are Suzanne Thomas\, artist and Rose State College professor\, and Tahnee Jones\, chef and owner of Naija Wife Kitchen and a 2025 James Beard Award Best Chef: Southwest Semifinalist. Together\, they’ll examine themes of identity\, culture\, memory\, belonging\, and visual storytelling while inviting guests to share their own observations and experiences. As new perspectives emerge\, the artwork becomes a starting point for deeper understanding—not only of the work itself\, but of one another. \nFollowing the gallery discussion\, guests are invited to enjoy a tasting of Nigerian cuisine prepared by Tahnee Jones. Extending the experience beyond the gallery\, the tasting offers another way to connect with the cultural influences reflected in Crosby’s work through food\, conversation\, and community.
