When one hears the name Bricktown, many things come to mind... in particular, food, music, movies and fun! Whether it's a baseball game or simply dinner and dancing, Bricktown has something for everybody.
Underlying all else is the fact that the Bricktown area is the historic crossroads of commerce in Oklahoma City. The area was populated by aging red brick warehouses.
In December 1993, when the residents of OKC approved the MAPS (Metropolitan area Projects) Program, it meant new development for a City and an area in desperate need of revitalization.
The second project completed for MAPS, the first for the Bricktown District, is the Bricktown Ballpark. The 12,000-seat ballpark is home to the Oklahoma RedHawks, a Triple A team for the Texas Rangers. The RedHawks season normal runs from March through September. The Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark also plays host to several community events like Race for the Cure in the fall and other baseball and softball games. The ballpark is a great multifunctional facility for Bricktown!
The next Bricktown District MAPS addition was the Bricktown Canal. Catch the yellow Water Taxi on the canal for a nice relaxing ride to see where new landscaping and private developments are being made along the canal and the riverfront.
While you’re in Bricktown, how about some shopping? Bass Pro Shops offers unique exterior and interior motifs that have branded them as visually appealing, high quality outdoor stores. The outdoor feel is brought indoors through massive log and rock work, large indoor aquariums and water features stocked with native fish species, as well as an extensive collection of museum quality fish and wildlife mounts. More than just a fishing and hunting store, Bass Pro Shops offers equipment and clothing for hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, camping, outdoor cooking and more!
Feel like a movie? The Harkin's Bricktown 16 is a 16-screen cinema located in Lower Bricktown on the southern edge of Bricktown (on Reno immediately west of the new Sonic world headquarters). The new complex is designed to elevate the motion picture experience with comfortable seating, complete food service and childcare facilities for patrons. The theatre features the largest movie screen in Oklahoma, the Ciné-Capri, measuring 70 feet wide.
